Centennial Celebration is On!!!
(updated on 6/22/10)

The Dupree Centennial Celebration will go on as planned with just a few changes in where some events will be held.  Due to the loss of Pioneer Hall some events will move to the School and others to a tent that was generously donated by friends of the community.  Tentative plans are to locate the tent at the Pioneer Hall location.  All updated information will be available at the Centennial Registration in Harry's Hall.  The Centennial committee would like all area residents and out of town visitors to stop at Harry's Hall at their earliest convenience to register for the celebration and pick up current information on the schedule of events and where they will be held.  Registration will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 8th and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, July 9th and Saturday, July 10th.

All Centennial souvenir items will be available at Harry's Hall during the Registration times or in advance by contacting Darla or Dondra at 1st Insurance Services on Main Street in Dupree.  Order blanks are also be available here on the Dupree website (click here to order souvenirs).

Limited Edition Dupree Centennial Rifle

The Dupree Volunteer Fire Department voted to take on this project on November 13, 2009, after meeting with Mark Smith of A & A Engraving, Inc. of Rapid City, SD. The Department paid a $1000 deposit and the process was started.

The Rifle is a Rossi (Winchester Replica) Model 92, and the caliber is 45 Long Colt. The metal is plated with 24kt gold.

The images engraved on the rifle were chosen from photos found in Ziebach County History Books. The images are:

  • Right Side-Dupree's Old School, the Depot and a group of Tipis, the 1st Ziebach County Courthouse, Old Locomotive and Creamer Community Hospital.
  • Eagle Feathers are engraved on the trigger guard/lever, the Corporate Seal for the City of Dupree is located on the butt plate and the Dupree VFD Logo is engraved on the top of the butt plate.

This Dupree Centennial Rifle is the PROOF Edition and tickets are being sold now for a chance to win this Beautifully engraved Rifle. Only 1000 tickets will be sold and the drawing will be held at the Sunday Rodeo Performance (7/11/2010) of Dupree's Pioneer Days Centennial Celebration. FAMILY STORIES FOR 2010 HISTORY SEQUEL

The deadline set for submitting family stories to the Ziebach County Historical Society for the 2010 Centennial History Book has passed but stories can still be accepted at this time.  Stories that have been submitted are being typed and after that has been completed the stories will be flowed into the book format.  At that point, additional stories can not be added.   The Society would like to see every family in Ziebach County be included in the book and urges everyone to gather together their family’s history and write about it.  Let us know how and when your family first came to Ziebach County, where they settled, what they did for a living and what changes your family has seen over the years.  Write about the schools attended, memories of special occasions, natural disasters, wars, churches you attended, people you knew, list siblings and children and information about them and anything else you would like to have recorded about your family. If you have a picture you would like to have included please send a copy along.

If you family has been instrumental in establishing or perpetuating local businesses, tell us about that.  The Society would also like to have any other historical stories about the area.  The old way of life, organizations, church history and any other topic that should be remembered by future generations will also be included.

Send your stories to the Ziebach County Historical Society, PO Box 452, Dupree, SD 57623 or e-mail them to thezchs@hotmail.com Don’t be left out and don’t wait too long to get your story done.
